Perfume was first discovered by Egyptians in 10,000 B.C. They didn't only use it to smell good but also to soften there skin and protect it. Perfume was also used in rituals involving the dead.

Many girls in the civil war used perfumee, it was just considered part of getting dressed. Some main scents that were popular were lavender, rose, orange blossom and gardenia. A lot of girls wore lavander scented perfume because it worked as a bug repeller too.
